Accessibility features of this web site
Our group is committed to making this web site accessible for all users by following the W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines. This web site is Level A compliant and meets Priority 1 checkpoints of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (WCAG).
Some of the accessibility features of this site include the following:
- Text can be enlarged or reduced based on user preference
- All pages have the option of a fixed-, flexible-, or fluid-width layout to accommodate different browser window sizes, screen resolutions, and software platforms
- The site was designed using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and Javascript, but the content is still accessible if users have these features turned off
- Text alternatives are available for images
Changing Text Size
- Via the menu: the option to change text size is located under "View" in the browser menu.
- Via the keyboard: users can change text size by holding down the "Ctrl" (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) key and pressing either "+" or "-"
Layout Options
The following layout icons allow users to change the layout style. Changing the layout will save a cookie to your computer; the cookie *only* contains your layout preference and *does not* store any other data.
Fixed Width: the default layout of this web site sized at 795 pixels wide
Flexible Width: the width of the layout changes as users increase or decrease the text size
Fluid Width: the width of the layout expands to 90% of the browser window (n.b. - a minimum width has been established to help maintain a structure for the content)
Programming/Functionality
Javascript is used for changing the layout and selecting options on the publications page. Disabling Javascript will disable this functionality, but content on the site will still be accessible.
CSS provides a design structure for the content. Disabling CSS will display raw content without any formatting.
